How do I book a journey?

Booking begins with a simple inquiry. Tell us your dates, interests, and travel style. Our travel designers respond with a personalized itinerary, confirm availability, and secure your place with a deposit. We then guide you through visas, packing, flights, and final preparations.

What is included in a Highlight Mongolia journey?

Every journey includes boutique or luxury ger camp accommodation, all meals as specified, domestic flights within Mongolia, private 4WD vehicles with experienced drivers, expert English-speaking guides, all entrance fees and permits, curated cultural experiences, and a professional photography package.

What is NOT included?

International flights to and from Ulaanbaatar, Mongolian visa fees where applicable, travel insurance, alcoholic beverages, personal expenses, optional gratuities, and gear rental unless otherwise arranged are not included. We provide a clear inclusions list with every proposal.

When is the best time to visit Mongolia?

June through August offers warm weather, green steppe, and the Naadam festival. September and October bring golden larch forests and the Eagle Festival. November to March delivers crystalline winter landscapes, frozen rivers, and the darkest skies for aurora and stargazing. May and early June are ideal for wildflowers and fewer crowds.

Do I need a visa to visit Mongolia?

Many nationalities — including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Australia, Japan, and South Korea — can enter Mongolia visa-free for stays of 30 to 90 days. Other passport holders typically need a tourist e-visa or invitation letter, which we are happy to assist with at no extra cost.

Is Mongolia safe for travelers?

Mongolia is one of the safest countries in Asia for visitors. Crime against tourists is rare, and locals are famously hospitable. Our journeys include satellite communicators in remote areas, comprehensive medical kits, evacuation plans, and guides trained in wilderness first aid.

What should I pack for Mongolia?

Layering is essential because temperatures can swing dramatically. Pack sturdy boots, sun protection, a warm mid-layer, a waterproof shell, a good camera, binoculars, and any personal medications. We provide a detailed, season-specific packing list after you book and can arrange rental gear for camping or horseback riding.

How large are your groups?

Our signature small-group journeys are capped at six guests. This preserves intimacy, access to private ger camps, and meaningful interaction with nomadic families. Private custom journeys can be arranged for solo travelers, couples, families, or groups of up to twelve.

Can you create a custom private journey?

Yes — bespoke journeys are our specialty. Share your dates, interests, fitness level, and any special occasion, and our designers will craft a one-of-a-kind itinerary. Popular custom focuses include photography, wellness, multi-generational family travel, and exclusive festival access.

What is the cancellation policy?

Deposits are fully refundable up to 90 days before departure. Between 90 and 60 days, 50% of the deposit is retained. Within 60 days of departure, the deposit is non-refundable but may be transferred to a future journey within 24 months. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance.

How far in advance should I book?

We recommend booking 3–6 months in advance, especially for peak season (June–August) and festival journeys like Naadam and the Golden Eagle Festival. Custom private journeys require at least 4 months of planning to secure the best guides, ger camps, and domestic flights.

Will I have phone signal and internet?

Ulaanbaatar and provincial centers have reliable 4G. On the steppe and in remote areas, signal is intentionally limited — many guests welcome the digital disconnection. Our vehicles carry satellite communicators for emergencies, and most ger camps offer limited Wi-Fi in common areas.

Can dietary restrictions be accommodated?

Absolutely. Mongolian cuisine is traditionally meat and dairy based, but our hosts are remarkably adaptable. We accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal, kosher, and allergies with advance notice. Simply share your requirements in your pre-arrival profile.
